When author Kimberly Thornton began writing her first book, she was planning a trip around the world that spanned a year and a half and 21 countries. Her stories are based on real places her family visited and the adventures she and her boys loved. 

Beyond the Icy Towers is the first book in the Carter and Eli's Map Quest series. This thrilling middle-grade adventure blends heart-pounding action with heartfelt sibling relationships as two brothers take a journey to uncover the secrets of a Hidden World and its treasures. 

The adventure begins when Carter and Eli discover an ancient letter revealing a treasure hidden in a mysterious world. But the map to this Hidden World has been torn into pieces and scattered across the globe. To find the treasure, the brothers must travel the world, solving riddles to uncover the missing map pieces. Along the way, they'll face dangerous obstacles and sinister forces, testing their courage and their bond as brothers.

Each book in the series is set in a different country, inviting young readers to join Carter and Eli as they work together to solve clues and get one step closer to the Hidden World’s treasure.
